Q. Is Nicaragua safe?
A. Yes, many people still associate the country with unrest or dislike towards Americans, but nothing could be further from the truth. You will find the Nicaraguan people kind, friendly and helpful, and the country absolutely beautiful. Like traveling in any unfamiliar country, it’s important to be alert and attentive and respectful, but that’s just common sense.
Q. How can I find the best fares for flights to Nicaragua?
A. We suggest using the YAPTA service. Start tracking your flights early and be alerted when the ticket(s) you want drops in price.
Q. Do the people generally speak English?
A. Many locals do speak (or understand) some English; however, you will enjoy the experience much more if you take the time to learn some of the basic phrases to help you find food, banks, and basic navigation. If you don’t know any Spanish, use a Spanish-English dictionary or try many of the iPhone, Android or Windows Mobile applications available for translation.
Q. What kind of race experience can I expect?
A. Fuego Y Agua is definitely what you make of it. Runners will experience challenging terrain in a variety of mini-ecosystems from hot and dry, to humid and soaked. A trail runner’s paradise. You will experience breath-taking views high atop volcanoes, incredible flora and fauna throughout the island run, and awesome locals who share “mucho” interest in the event.
Q. What if I get lost during the race?
A. Like any event, Runner’s are encouraged to pay close attention to course markings and carry a course map. The course is well marked, and race marshals travel the course throughout the event to ensure no runner is left behind.
Q. How much support does the race offer?
A. Fuego y Agua has plenty of support for the event. The aid stations provide plenty of nutrition and hydration options to keep you running at top efficiency; however, if you have very specific product needs, you should bring those items with you. Drop bags are available at key locations along the course.
Q. Do you have links to any race reports so I can see if this race is for me?
A. Yes.
