On the heels of the highly successful Survival Run Nicaragua and Survival Run Australia races, Fuego y Agua is pleased to announce the introduction of a new race in the Survival Run series – Survival Run Canada. Directed by the winner of 2016 Survival Run Nicaragua, Dylan Morgan, Survival Run Canada will take place in August 26-27, 2017 out of Squamish, British Columbia, an hour north of Vancouver. Squamish is known for is rugged and beautiful terrain, and diverse and vibrant adventure sports culture; we look forward to a grueling and rewarding race!
British Columbia, and in particular the Sea to Sky Corridor, from Vancouver to Whistler, have long been associated with adventure sports at the highest level. Squamish, located at the head of the Howe Sound fjord, is in many ways the jewel of the Corridor. Rock climbing and skiing have multi-generational histories, almost as ingrained as logging, hunting, and mining; the only history in the Corridor with deeper roots is the ancient connection of the First Nations bands which still call the valley home, and whose name was taken by the town.
More recently, mountain biking, trail running, and other cutting-edge sports have found fertile ground in the steep valley sides and deep waters of the Sound. Squamish is home to some of the most technical, demanding, and sought-after trail running races of their distance in North America.
Add the natural beauty of the area, and you have all the ingredients for a spectacular trial of endurance – the perfect home for a new Survival Run to stand proudly with its older brothers in Nicaragua and Australia. All that has been missing so far is someone to make it happen – until now.
Dylan Morgan, winner of Survival Run Nicaragua 2016, is a South African adventurer who has made Squamish his home. He is passionate about the mountains, with roots in rock climbing, mountaineering and mountain biking, though his main focus is now on ultra marathon trail running. With his vision of more miles, more hours, and more demanding obstacles, we urge only the strong to apply!
