We produce extreme endurance events with a philanthropic twist. Our mission is to bring unique, challenging and sustainable endurance events to the planet. We strive to bring our runners, volunteers and participants an integrated cultural and learning experience, not just another racing event.
Fuego y Agua Events LLC was founded in 2008 from the vision that became Ultra Fuego y Agua on Isla de Ometepe, Nicaragua. Fuego y Agua means Fire and Water in Spanish, inspired by the elements of the two volcanoes on Isla de Ometepe, one active (fire) and the other dormant (water).
Originally inspired by his friend, the late Micah True (Caballo Blanco), and the Ultra Caballo Blanco (Copper Canyon Ultramarathon), Race Director Josue Stephens created a sustainable extreme event with philanthropic motives in Nicaragua. Since its inception, Ultra Fuego y Agua Nicaragua has grown into a popular yearly event and the idea of Fuego y Agua has developed into a global concept for extreme events.
The recent addition of the unique Survival Run ultra distance obstacle/challenge races and Fuego y Agua running retreats has further expanded our vision to a growing international audience.
In addition, in honor of the late Micah True, the Ultra Caballo Blanco (Copper Canyon Ultramarathon) from "Born to Run" fame is now one of the Events we produce in collaboration with Maria Walton of Norawas de Raramuri.
