With all of its activities in a beautiful setting, Ometepe is not only a place to race long, hard distances, but a great place to relax with family or friends. Many runners and volunteers choose to come early or stay after the race to enjoy the beauty of Ometepe.

Swimming and Relaxing at Punta Jesus Maria | 5 minute drive from Moyogalpa

- Punta Jesus María is the most western point of the island. A narrow strip of sand stretches out into Lake Nicaragua as far as 1 km during dry season. You can walk on the strip of sand, with water splashing in from both the left and the right.
Hiking at Charco Verde Natural Reserve (1-2 hours) | 15 minute drive from Moyogalpa

- A protected area between the two volcanoes at the bottom part of the island, the reserve encompasses a lagoon, forest, and a beach. The lagoon is called Laguna Verde (Green Lagoon) and is closed off from the lake by a thin strip of land. The lagoon provides a shelter for many birds and wildlife.
Swimming at Ojo de Agua (also a race Aid Station location) | 25 minute drive from Moyogalpa

- Ojo de Agua is a natural spring pool of crystal clear water under a forest canopy inhabited by howler monkeys and tropical birds. The pool is perfect for swimming and has hammocks, chairs and a small restaurant that serves food and beverages all day.
Swimming and Dining at Playa Santo Domingo | 30 minute drive from Moyogalpa
Besides beautiful beaches and good restaurants, Playa Santo Domingo offers many other activities.

- A small canopy tour with zip-lines.
- Boats, windsurfing and kite-surfing equipment for rent.
- Hiking in the tropical forest of Cabuya and the Rio Istian.
Kayaking Rio Istian (5-7 hours) | 45 minute drive from Moyogalpa to Merida

- One of the best places to spot birds on the island is Rio Istian (isthmus river), located between the Maderas and Concepcion volcanoes. The river is a sanctuary for resident and migratory birds, with gorgeous views in a pristine natural setting.
- Rent a kayak at Hacienda Merida or Caballitos Mar.
Hiking to San Ramon Waterfall (5-6 hours) | 1 hour drive from Moyogalpa to San Ramon

- Located on the southern slope of Volcan Maderas, about 4km from the village of San Ramon.
- The 56m (183 ft) natural waterfall can be reached with a vigorous 5km hike up the steep forested slopes of the volcano.
El Ceibo Numismatic Museum (1-2 hours) | A 10 minute drive from Moyogalpa

- The museum is a result of the dedication of Moises Ghitis, who at the age of six began collecting coins and paper money. Today, almost forty years later, he exhibits one of the most complete collections in Nicaragua.
- Open to the public on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Entry Fee is approximately $3 USD
