Ultramaraton Fuego y Agua begins and ends in the port town of Moyogalpa, this is where the ferry comes in from the mainland town of San Jorge. Moyogalpa is the largest town on the island and offers all amenities. There are restaurants and grocery stores all over town. Most of the food is traditional Nicaraguan fare, a staple of beans, chicken and rice, but the American Cafe serves up an excellent breakfast of eggs toast and coffee. Although there are only two large towns on Ometepe, Altagracia and Moyogalpa, there are several small villages all over the island.
Directions to Fuego y Agua Office
The Fuego y Agua main office is located in Moyogalpa. To get there, walk up the main street from the Ferry Landing and turn right in front of the Catholic Church. The office is on the right before the Gallo mas Gallo furniture store. There will be banners and signs on the door.
Transportation
Part of the roads on Ometepe are paved, but most of it remains unpaved. On the Concepcion side of the island, a 24km paved road between the town of Moyogalpa and Altagracia has dramatically decreased travel times between these towns. The distance is about 24 kilometer, and it takes around 30-40 minutes to get from Moyogalpa to Altagracia. The road to Volcan Maderas is unpaved and it requires more time to get to this side of the island.
