In Australia there is a saying "You've got Buckley's Chance," which essentially means, "you have no chance". This saying is based on the true story of William Buckley, an English convict who was transported to Australia, escaped, was given up for dead and lived in an Aboriginal community for many years.
Buckley's Chance races are best described as "God's own obstacle course", with athletes leaping, crawling, climbing, swimming, and of course running through some of the world's toughest natural environments.
BUCKLEY'S CHANCE is an event for athletes who have participated in any kind of trail, OCR, Ultra Endurance, adventure race or similar to step up and experience the terrain in the NSW Hinterland.
SURVIVAL RUN takes that extreme experience to another level. This is the ultimate hybrid event where the world's best obstacle racers, sky runners, adventure racers, trail runners, survivalists and military personnel go head to head in a battle of mental, physical and emotional endurance.
In true FUEGO Y AGUA ENDURANCE style, Australia's only SURVIVAL RUN event will take place inside a 20 million year old shield volcano situated in the NSW Southern Highlands. This is the same area where Australian Special Forces Operators have trained Infantry Soldiers in Escape, Evasion and Survival techniques prior to deployment to the Middle East.

SURVIVAL RUN is not for those who question their own ability.
We expect to see the world's best obstacle racers, sky runners, adventure racers, trail runners, survivalists and military personnel to go head to head in a battle of mental, physical and emotional endurance.
You must have completed a 50km+ Race or Ultra Endurance (12hrs+) event to have your application considered
You will be completing a number of challenges during the event. More details on these will be revealed later in the future.
Do not expect to finish the race....
SURVIVAL RUN is not an obstacle course race, an adventure race, or an ultra-marathon. It is an original combination of all of these. It is not a standard definition obstacle course race, with man-made mud, manufactured obstacles and gimmicky fire jumps. Survival Run is all about adapting to the environment and taking on challenges that are part of the historic indigenous culture and unique location where the event takes place.
That is why athletes must apply to participate. Only those who are truly prepared to take on these extreme challenges will be considered.
As with all of the BUCKLEY'S CHANCE races, SURVIVAL RUN is "unsupported" meaning, athletes will be called upon to carry all required hydration and nutrition themselves. If they run out of water or food they will need to source it from the natural environment, and ensure that it has been purified before consumption.
SURVIVAL RUN AUSTRALIA OFFERS SOLO & 2-PERSON TEAM CATEGORIES
Awards are given for SURVIVAL RUN™ 1st, 2nd & 3rd place overall SOLO finishers & 1st TEAM finishers.
Applicants must have previous ultra distance experience to be considered for entry! Accepted applicants will receive a registration link via our Registration System.

If you are not an Australian resident, this insurance will cover you during a Survival Run. You are REQUIRED to present a copy of this insure prior to Packet Pick-up.
Australian residents must sign an additional waiver and show proof of valid medical insurance.
BUCKLEY'S CHANCE "OFF" TRAIL RUNS will require athletes to negotiate natural obstacles such as dense scrub, steep ascents and descents, and water crossings. Athletes should expect to crawl, climb, wade, jump and run through what can best be described as "God's own obstacle course".
Athletes will be called upon to carry all required hydration and nutrition themselves. If they run out of water or food they will need to source it from the natural environment, and ensure that it has been purified before consumption.
Though the "OFF" TRAIL RUNS do not require athletes to complete the additional tasks of SURVIVAL RUN, do not underestimate how challenging these courses can be. Athletes can expect to spend more than twice the amount of time on course than in an average trail running event.
We remind all runners that all events are "Unsupported" so you will be required to carry or source all required hydration and nutrition yourself, as there are no aid stations on course.
50km competitors will be able to access a "Drop Bag" at the 25km Check Point.
If you are participating in the 25km event and are concerned that you will be unable to carry all required hydration we strongly suggest that you bring a water purifier so you can source additional water on the course. For all 50km runners - a water purifier is mandatory.

The races start/finish on a private property that has been family owned for over 100yrs. This property is nestled within Sydney's beautiful Southern Highlands. Exact location details will be posted closer to Race Day, but as a reference, is no more than 5mins drive from the centre of Colo Vale

Auto rentals are easy since most major rental agencies are represented at Sydney Airport. Check on Expedia, Priceline, AutoEurope or your favorite travel site for the best deals. It will take approximately 1hr 15mins to drive from Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD), or 1hr 40mins from the Sydney CBD.
Since the venue is remote, we provide tent camping. You can either bring your own tent and hire a tent spot or hire one we provide. Our tent hire service covers your tent setup, cots and tent take-down. All you have to do is show up.
Portable Showers and Toilets are available, please bring your own bedding and toiletries.
Volunteering for BUCKLEY'S involves a combination of hard work and adventure. Tasks include (but are not limited to) food preparation, packet-pickup, course marking, aid stations, vehicle course control, hiking/running course control, remote aid station support and more.
WHAT DO VOLUNTEERS RECEIVE?
Details will be provided by our Volunteer Coordinator for each event. These are basic items volunteer will receive.
Please be sure you are available for these times/dates you are registering for. Our volunteers are a very important part of our event. We are flexible and will work with your schedule and needs. If you cannot make the Volunteer Meeting, we can still use you for a shift, just be sure to communicate with your Volunteer Coordinator to let them know.
Volunteers must bring with them a backpack with a change of clothing/socks, headlamp w/extra batteries, sunscreen, bug spray, 3+ liters of water, snacks/food. Sturdy shoes are required. Thank you for volunteering!
